From the coral reefs in the deep ocean to the wetlands of the Everglades, the FIU Institute of Water and Environment (InWE) is advancing the science and technology needed to address complex water and environmental issues locally, nationally and globally. InWE supports interdisciplinary research, interactive education, and public engagement by linking top scientists with thought-leaders and business professionals, as well as local, state, and federal collaborators to foster environmental sustainability. InWE is an FIU Preeminent Program in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education.

The Institute of Water and Environment International Program (InWE-IP) views water as an essential and critical resource for a healthy and sustainable future. InWE-IP houses the new FIU UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Water Security and strives to ensure that clean and potable water is accessible and available to everyone on our planet.

Our research crosses the physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, public health, law, engineering, computer sciences and architecture in an effort to preserve freshwater and marine ecosystems for future generations. Our cross-cutting programs work across each of our centers, as well as perform their own research and engagement initiatives.
